Well-known Uzbek film director Elyor Ishmuhamedov is a recipient of the honorary title «People's Artist of Uzbekistan». His films have brought a new spirit to Uzbek cinema, have been positively evaluated in the press, are enjoyed by art fans, have been highly rated at international and former Soviet film festivals, and have been awarded prizes.
Film director Elyor Ishmuhamedov was born in Tashkent in 1942. After graduating from the directing faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow in 1967 (during his student years in Moscow, in 1963, he shot a short film titled «Meeting»), he began his career as a director at the «Uzbekfilm» studio and shot feature films such as «Nafosat» (Tenderness, 1966), «Sevishganlar» (Lovers, 1969), «Uchrashuvlar va Ayriliqlar» (Meetings and Partings, 1973), «Birds Are Our Friends», and others.
These films brought a new spirit to Uzbek cinema, were positively evaluated in the press, were enjoyed by art fans, were highly rated at international and former Soviet film festivals, and were awarded prizes.
E. Ishmuhamedov's feature film «Nafosat» received a special prize at the 20th International Film Festival in Locarno and a Silver Medal and a Special Prize for best directing at the film festival in Frankfurt am Main; the feature film «Sevishganlar» was awarded a prize and a special prize at the 4th All-Union Film Festival in Minsk and at the festival in Kesak (Hungary).
Elyor Ishmuhamedov also tested his strength in documentary cinema, filming «My Free Youth», «There Is Such a Canal in Tashkent», and «Bicycle Race» at the Uzbekistan Science and Popular Documentary Film Studio, and these films were also enjoyed by the cultural public.
E. Ishmuhamedov's creative work was appropriately rewarded. He was granted the honorary title «People's Artist of Uzbekistan».
